Philosophy of Work

Our purpose is to allow the patient to utilize more efficiently all latent and manifested resources in order to live with visual impairment, accepting more naturally the shortcomings caused by the deficiency. We give the patient a complete explanation of the pathology (according to his/her level) including pictures and diagrams to show the affect in the visual function. An emotional evaluation was made in order to asses its influence in the onset and progression of the disease. Specific vision improvement exercises and also orientation how to use the optical aids in activities such as reading, writing, and focusing to medium and long distances. According to the individual case and its specific needs we refer the patient to a multi disciplinary team. Periodic visits are programmed in order to maintain and strengthen the relationship and to reassure the patient.

Dynamics of the consultation

Usually the patients have been referred to me through other professionals, mainly ophthalmologists, who send to me the reports, including all eye examinations that they have carried out. We try to establish a relationship with the patient creating an atmosphere that makes it possible for them to feel at ease, secure and comfortable about expressing their inner feelings in a friendly manner.

Description of the case of the case of Mr. P.C.

Who is a pleasant 84 year-old, white male with age-related macular degeneration who developed a disciform scar in the right eye and a progressive decreased central visual acuity in the left eye. We intend to develop in details the whole process from the first visit till the right use of the residual vision through a progressive awareness and level of knowledge of their own visual perceptual functioning. I would like to add the efficiency of combined work among the professional dealing with the patient, and the profound respect of the uniqueness and the individuality of the person involved in the treatment right use of the residual vision through a progressive awareness and level of knowledge of their own visual perceptual functioning.
